Late afternoon in my room

Why is it so sensual
To wash a lover’s hair?

Is it the scent of blossoms
Borne away on fingertips,
Or the gentle lapping of
Small waves at the water’s edge?

Is it the deep stillness that
Descends slowly on the heart,
Or the final yielding
Of control, the gift of trust?

Perhaps it is all of these
But this much I remember:

She bowed her head at the sink,
Letting the warm water run
And when she looked back at me
I knew I could not refuse.

This is so sensual and sweet, reminds me that I once dreamed that my now husband washed my hair, which clued me into the fact that I was having feelings for him. Weeks later the dream came true when he really did wash my hair.

You've brought to life a moment that overrides its common context and opens the door to another sort of experience. Sensuous, but also of the spirit. An excellent piece, and a pleasure to read.

Ooops closed early before the box came up. I'll try again. I agree with "hedge" Sensuous and beautiful. I think you have tapped into something both private and primal here. I liked it very much.

Dude

This is so true...I was an apprentice hairdresser way back in the day in a ladies salon and it used to be a trip sometimes to connect with a ahem..customer in that way - i was 18 at the time - so connecting was a frequent thing...but it did feel weird doing the elderly ladies...great tips though!

Sorry you hit a nerve.

You obviously caught me up though with this poem. I really enjoyed your write and my visit

Wonderfully evocative. Drew me in so much I wanted to smell the scents, know the color of her hair, her eyes!

ah, yes...the trust, the connection. Certainly a more spiritual moment, the silence, the sound, the scent...ascending the everyday mundane...taking it and making it so much more. Nice...very nice :)

The last stanza is wonderful, could perhaps stand on its own! Great writing throughout.
